Practical Guidelines for Testing Statistical Software

چکیده

Schloss Reisensburg. Physica-Verlag, 1994. Summary Traditional tests of the accuracy of statistical software have been based on a few limited paradigms for ordinary least squares regression. Test suites based on these criteria served the statistical computing community well when software was limited to a few simple procedures. Recent developments in statistical computing require both more and less sophisticated measures, however. We need tests for a broader variety of procedures and ones which are more likely to reveal incompetent programming. This paper summarizes these issues.

Software Testing Defect Prediction Model-a Practical Approach

Software defects prediction aims to reduce software testing efforts by guiding the testers through the defect classification of software systems. Defect predictors are widely used in many organizations to predict software defects in order to save time, improve quality, testing and for better planning of the resources to meet the timelines. The application of statistical software testing defect ...

The Role of Statistical Significance Testing In Educational Research

The research methodology literature in recent years has included a full frontal assault on statistical significance testing. The purpose of this paper is to promote the position that, while significance testing as the sole basis for result interpretation is a fundamentally flawed practice, significance tests can be useful as one of several elements in a comprehensive interpretation of data. Spe...

The Concept of Statistical Significance Testing. - Practical Assessment, Research & Evaluation

Too few researchers understand what statistical significance testing does and doesn't do, and consequently their results are misinterpreted. Even more commonly, researchers understand elements of statistical significance testing, but the concept is not integrated into their research. For example, the influence of sample size on statistical significance may be acknowledged by a researcher, but t...

Software Safety Demonstration and Idemnification

In cyber-physical systems, software may control safety-significant operations. This report discusses a method to structure software testing to measure the statistical confidence that algorithms are true to their intended design. The subject matter appears in two main parts: theory, which shows the relationship between discrete systems theory, software, and the actuated automaton; and applicatio...

Forty Years of Use and Abuse of Impact Testing: A Practical Guide to Making Good FRF Measurements

Impact testing first came into common use over forty years ago, once the fast Fourier transform (FFT) was commercially available. Over this period of time, implementation of impact testing has evolved but some of the same problems seem to reoccur. This paper documents the practical guidelines that have evolved, along with some practical examples of what happens when the guidelines are not follo...
